She was born in 1975 in Tekirdag. She completed her dental education at Hacettepe University Faculty of Dentistry in 1997 and her PhD at Hacettepe University Institute of Health Sciences, Department of Periodontology in 2001. In 2001, she started to work at Süleyman Demirel University Faculty of Dentistry, Department of Periodontology. In 2003, she was appointed as Assistant Professor, in 2009 as Associate Professor and in 2014 as Professor. Prof. Dr. Zuhal Yetkin Ay, who still continues to work as a faculty member at the same university, is a member of the Turkish Society of Periodontology, European Federation of Periodontology and Osseder. Her research interests include classification of periodontal diseases, systemic inflammatory burden associated with periodontitis, relationships between systemic diseases and periodontal diseases, aging and its effect on periodontal tissues, Th17 cells in periodontal disease pathogenesis.
Dental Implants: Elderly Patients and Holistic Approach
The increase in the elderly population in our country and in the world population has increased the importance of preventive and therapeutic dentistry practices for this population. Dental implants, whose application prevalence is increasing, are emerging as an alternative to classical methods, especially in elderly individuals, not only functionally but also aesthetically and psychosomatically. In dental implant applications in the elderly, as in any age, many factors such as the systemic health of the individual, the medications used, the current dentition status, the structure of the mandibular and maxillary alveolar bone and their relationship with each other should be taken into consideration. The evaluation of these conditions is also very important in terms of planning the prosthetic restoration to be applied. In this presentation, dental implant applications in elderly individuals from a holistic point of view, periimplantitis cases that can be observed as a result of implant applications and their treatments will be summarized with cases.
