A New Look at Vital Pulp Treatments of Permanent Teeth: Indications, Procedures and Prognoses
Vital pulp treatment has long been indicated as the therapy for immature teeth and traumatized mature permanent teeth with exposed pulp. With the advent of pulp biology, material science and regenerative endodontics, vital pulp treatments have been rejuvenized at an attempt to maintain pulp vitality and tooth longevity. Vital pulp treatment modalities include direct pulp capping, partial and full pulpotomy, which have now been indicated for cariously exposed permanent teeth with mild symptoms or even cases indicative of irreversible pulpitis. The evidence-based dentistry favored vital pulp treatments as an alternative treatment to root canal therapy for indicated cases. This lecture will give an overview of the current status of vital pulp treatments, discuss the diagnosis and prognostic factors in treatment planning, and highlight the case selection, therapeutic principles and outcome evaluation in dental practice.
Learning objectives
- To get an overview of evidence-based progresses in vital pulp treatment for carious permanent teeth
- To understand the definitions, indications and therapeutic principles of vital pulp treatments ( e.g. pulp capping, partial and full pulpotomy)
- To learn how to apply vital pulp treatment modalities into different clinical scenario
Decision-making for Endodontic Success: the Personalized Therapeutic Strategies in Managing Pulpal and Periapi
Pulpal and periapical diseases are common oral diseases that challenge dental practitioners with endodontic therapy. Accurate diagnosis, proper treatment planning and decision-making could lead to predictable clinical outcome, which is a complex process. In evidence-base endodontics, treatment modalities such as vital pulp therapy, root canal treatment, and regenerative endodontics have been proposed for managing pulpal and periapical diseases with definitive prognosis. The lecture will discuss how to integrate certain features such as root maturity, pulp vitality, and periapical condition into clinical decision-making for endodontic cases. The indications, prognostic factors and operational procedures of the existing approaches will be highlighted to aid dental practitioners formulate personalized therapeutic strategies or seek for consultation or referral in managing pulpal and periapical diseases.
Learning objectives
- To aid clinical decision-making and treatment planning for endodontic cases
- To understand the indications and therapeutic principles of each endodontic treatment modality
- To identify cases in need of endodontist consultation or referral
