Dr. Suh-Fang Jeng is vice president of World Physiotherapy and a professor of the School and Graduate Institute of Physical Therapy at National Taiwan University. She served as the Associate Dean of the National Taiwan University College of Medicine, President of the Taiwan Physical Therapy Association, and the World Physiotherapy- Asia Western Pacific (AWP) Regional Chair. Her expertise includes early assessment and intervention of high-risk infants, professional promotion and advocacy, and international collaboration. Dr. Jeng is dedicated to launching the first entry-level Doctor of Physical Therapy education program in Asia, advocating legislative amendment for direct access in Taiwan, implementing regional collaboration and networking, contributing pediatric and administrative expertise to national & international academic societies, and assisting disaster/pandemic management at local, regional and global level.
Enhancing Global Health Outcomes through Interprofessional Collaboration: Perspectives of World Physiotherapy
Global health care in the 21st century faces multifaceted challenges requiring comprehensive and coordinated efforts from various health disciplines. Interprofessional collaboration, defined as the synergistic cooperation between professionals from different healthcare sectors, has emerged as a critical approach to improve the safety and quality of healthcare. This abstract reviews the socio-historical perspective of health professions with a paradigm shift toward interprofessional collaboration in healthcare delivery, and explores the significance and strategies of integrating diverse healthcare providers to enhance patient care quality, optimize resource use, reduce healthcare costs, and promote innovative solutions to public health issues. This abstract also examines successful models of interprofessional collaboration, identifies barriers and facilitators, and highlights the role of education and the commitment of all stakeholders in sustaining effective interprofessional practices. The findings underscore the necessity of interprofessional collaboration in achieving equitable, efficient, and sustainable health care worldwide.
