The Road Map to Decrease Incidence of Malocclusion in Community

Interceptive treatment has been identified as that phase of science and art of orthodontic employed to recognize and eliminate potential irregularities and malposition of the developing dentofacial complex. Malocclusion is not a disease rather than a developmental problem. Identifying etiology of malocclusion and dominant orthodontic problems as well as early detection could help in future effective treatment, management, and public health planning. An early treatment, especially preventive orthodontic treatment, was needed in almost all children. The purpose of early treatments is to enhance the proper dental and skeletal development by correction or early interception malocclusion. Early treatment can also reduce the severity of malocclusion and the treatment time in the permanent dentition. In this presentation, I will clarify how the general dentist can efficiently and properly reduce the incidence of malocclusion in the community.

Learning objectives

  • Learn and define interceptive treatment approach
  • Understand various methods intrerceptive procedures
  • Identify the proper timing for treatment
  • Compare between one-phae versus two-phase treatment
  • Apply the given knowledge to clinical cases

How far have we gone in new technologies for caries prevention?

The iatrogenic effect is deleterious damage to individual patients induced because of orthodontic mechanics. It’s not about how we make mistakes, it's about how to correct them. In this lecture, I will shed light on how the orthodontist can deal with some errors that could happen in the office and ways to decrease the side effects of orthodontic treatment.

Learning objectives

  • Identify the risk factors associated with different orthodontic procedure
  • Select the appropriate method for prevention
  • Manage the anticipated side effect
  • Assess Risk factors relative to benefit value
