Following her graduation, she began working as a Research Assistant in the Department of Dentomaxillofacial Radiology at Süleyman Demirel University in 2011 and completed her Ph.D. in 2016. In 2017, she joined the Faculty of Dentistry at Eskişehir Osmangazi University as an Assistant Professor. She was awarded the title of Associate Professor in 2021 and continues to serve at Eskişehir Osmangazi University.
Assoc. Prof. Bilgir's research focuses on interventional radiology in dentistry, advanced imaging techniques, and artificial intelligence applications. She is also a co-founder of a web-based software company operating in the Eskişehir Osmangazi University Technology Development Zone.
Interventional Radiology in Dentistry
The field of dentistry has undergone substantial advancements due to rapid technological progress, particularly in diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Interventional radiology, characterized by its minimally invasive techniques, presents enhanced safety and comfort for patients. This discipline involves the application of advanced imaging modalities to guide diagnostic and therapeutic interventions. These imaging-guided methods facilitate effective outcomes while minimizing the need for large incisions or extensive surgical procedures. In the dentistry, the use of these techniques has markedly enhanced clinical practice. Imaging-guided biopsies, for example, ensure high precision in diagnosing lesions. Preoperative embolization is critical for reducing hemorrhage risk in head and neck surgeries by allowing for controlled vascularization prior to the procedure. Ultrasound-guided arthrocentesis offers a safer approach compared to traditional blind techniques. Similarly, sialography enables precise diagnosis and management of salivary gland pathologies, while interventional radiology improves outcomes in the treatment of vascular lesions such as hemangiomas through targeted therapies. Future developments indicate a promising expansion of interventional radiology's role in dentistry. The integration of artificial intelligence and robotic surgery is expected to revolutionize diagnostic and treatment planning processes, offering more precise and efficient solutions. These advancements will make interventional radiology more accessible and effective, significantly enhancing patient satisfaction and treatment outcomes. As digital technology advances, interventional radiology will become an indispensable component of both current and future dental practices.
