General Anesthesia and Sedation: a Luxury or Necessity in Dental Procedures?

General anesthesia and sedation in dental procedures are not typically considered luxuries but are used as tools to ensure patient comfort and safety. The choice between general anesthesia and sedation in dentistry depends on various factors such as the complexity of the procedure, the patient’s medical history, their anxiety level and proper assessment. A thorough evaluation of the patient’s physical and psychological health is essential to determine the most suitable method. While success is achievable in many dental sedation cases, it’s not guaranteed in every situation so selecting the right patient is important. This presentation has been prepared to guide the patient to the correct treatment methods by observing the patient and understanding the patient's needs from when the patient arrives at the dental office.
