Zirconia: From laboratory to clinic

Metal ceramics are accepted as the “gold standard" in dentistry. On the other hand, there is always a search for alternative materials such as zirconia. Zirconia has been introduced to market because of its superior mechanical and chemical properties. It is a kind of ceramic safely used for crown-bridge frameworks, dowels, implants, abutments, orthodontic brackets and pediatric crowns. Up-to-date, many in vitro and long-term, follow-up studies about zirconia have been published. This lecture will be focused on the current situation of zirconia applications regarding the indications, clinical success and failures. In addition, some cases will be presented and discussed.
